Addiction Recovery Options In Laguna Beach, California

We have taken the time to help you discover the many addiction recovery options that are available in the many available drug rehab centers in Orange County, and specifically, in and around Laguna Beach. If you or a loved one is in need of professional help from a alcohol or drug rehab contact the addiction helpline below.

Laguna Beach Addiction Helpline The Recover

Whether you are having a problem with alcohol, cocaine, heroin, opioid addiction, or other prescription medication dependencies, we offer an extensive list of inpatient and outpatient drug rehabilitation, detoxification, and sober living treatment centers that can help you on the road to recovery. An Orange County drug rehab offers comfort and assistance to fit your needs and that of your loved ones.

Addiction Treatment Center Laguna Beach

The most commonly abused substances in Laguna Beach, California are: alcohol, meth, marijuana, heroin, cocaine, morphine, Demerol, hashish, Kratom, Restoril, Adderall, and Suboxone. Drug rehab in Orange County, especially in Laguna Beach, is taken seriously, and because of the high number of drug and alcohol problems in Laguna Beach, there are more than 29 different addiction treatment centers in the Laguna Beach area.

Opioid abuse and overdoses have caused emergency room visits in Orange County to more than double over the last decade, according to a recent report from the county health care agency.

The cities with the highest rates of opioid-related emergency room visits are in generally wealthy areas in Orange County including Laguna Beach.  In fact, Laguna Beach is listed as one of the top 12 cities with opioid-related emergency room visits. Laguna Beach had an average of 90 annual visits per 100,000 residents.  This is one reason why Orange County drug rehab is so important.

It is believed that a more affluent community like Laguna Beach has more free time, more access to prescription medications. Overdoses linked to prescription opioids, like Vicodin, OxyContin and morphine, are more concentrated in areas in Orange County including Laguna Beach, among the older population, while heroin overdoses are what is prevalent among younger people.

Understanding Laguna Beach

According to UCI Health, one person in Orange County dies every other day due to an accidental prescription medication overdose. This is not something that is difficult and far-fetched because what happens is that brain cells become accustomed to the presence of drugs, and the cells stop responding to low amounts of the drug. In order to feel the sensations that a person feels with that drug, the person must take larger amounts of that drug they have developed a craving for. Chasing that high can mean sedating the body to such a degree that breathing stops, and death can follow.

Orange County Addiction Hospitalization Rates

Studies show that the hospitalization rates for alcohol and drug-related issues in Orange County have not shown any significant improvement since 2011. Almost half of the hospital visits (48%) were patients with symptoms displaying psychological side-effects caused by drug or alcohol withdrawal. Almost 24% of these visits were described as chronic alcohol or drug dependence syndrome. The most common contributor to hospitalization was alcohol (11.2/%), followed by opioids (6%).

Other key statistics:

Hospitalization rates due to drug and alcohol issues are high among Non-Hispanic Whites (78%), followed by

Hispanics (14%), Asia/Pacific Islanders (3%), and African American (2%).

5,500 hospitalizations and 700 deaths related to substance abuse happen every year in Orange County;

Prescription drugs are most likely to cause overdose deaths (51.5% of total);

Hispanics are nearly twice as likely to die from an illicit drug overdose (37.5%), compared to Whites (20%.) However, Whites are more likely to overdose on prescription drugs (56.1%) compared to Hispanics (30.1%);

Getting treatment can help, but for some, it’s difficult to recognize addiction or research treatment programs. For some people, the only treatment they receive is in the corrections system. For more information about overdose statistics visit the official Orange County health site by clicking here.

Addiction Treatment Centers Laguna Beach

Addiction treatments do not have to be voluntary in order to work. A drug treatment program that helps people to recognize how the addiction began and that offers tools people can use to deal with cravings can help people to get better, whether they want that treatment or not.

Special Programs for Drug Rehab in Orange County and Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach drug rehab centers that specialize in helping those who seek relief from the grip of alcoholism or drug addiction range from outpatient care, to in-patient or “residential” centers, and provide services that include, but are not limited to:

  • Medical detox
  • Subsequent medical support/medication
  • Talk therapy, group therapy, behavior modification, and other forms of therapy to help address the root causes of addiction.

Some drug rehab in Orange County and Laguna Beach in particular, specialize in “drug-free” or “alternative” forms of drug rehab.

There are even more programs for addicts with special requests. There are rehabs that allow pets so animal lovers can have their pet alongside them during recovery.

A couples rehab allows people that are married or unmarried enter into a treatment program together. Often times the couple stays in the same room and receives couple addiction therapy.

Drug Treatment Centers In Laguna Beach, California

The types of drug treatment centers you will find in Laguna Beach California will vary from center to center. However, there are basically two types of drug treatment centers  – Residential and Out-Patient Day Centers.

Treatment centers in Laguna Beach can be “faith based” or purely clinical – or some combination of both. If you are seeking drug rehab in Orange County and specifically in Laguna Beach, you have taken the first important step to getting clean and sober.

According to the National Institutes of Health, “Drug Addiction is a treatable disorder. Through treatment that is tailored to individual needs, patients can learn to control their condition and live normal, productive lives.”

Actual treatment at a drug rehab center will usually include counseling or therapy targeted at behavior modification, and medication that may be used to help with detoxification and lessen the symptoms associated with withdrawal.

There may be those seeking addiction recovery services who may also be dealing with other behavioral or physical issues, and a drug treatment center will be able to help with these challenges as well. We list Orange County drug rehab facilities in Laguna Beach that offer everything from HIV counseling to family therapy, in addition to the main addiction recovery program.

Inpatient Drug Rehab Laguna Beach

Inpatient, or residential drug treatment centers, offer highly structured programs in which patients stay at a residence, typically for 30 days, but long term drug rehabs can last 90 days or longer. Residential drug treatment is usually recommended for patients with a long history of battling dependence, and/or who may have already tried unsuccessfully in an outpatient setting, or need to be removed from an environment that may involve serious criminal activities and/or a severely dysfunctional social, or living arrangement.

The focus of the program at a residential drug treatment center is to return the patient to a more positive drug-free, crime-free lifestyle. The kind of therapies one can expect to find at most residential drug treatment centers, basically follow the so-called Minnesota Model – the cornerstone of programs like Alcoholics Anonymous. These programs build communities where addicts can help themselves and one another, by employing a “12 Step program” followed by support which leads to a lifelong commitment to living sober.

An alternative to the typical 12-step program, that you may find in some inpatient rehab centers in Laguna Beach, is something known as the SMART program. SMART looks at addiction primarily as learned behavior. Therefore, SMART practitioners believe that addiction can be corrected using the proven scientific methods of behavior modification. This type of addiction treatment looks at a drug or alcohol problem less like a disease than as a practical problem that has practical solutions.

Can I Visit My Loved Ones in Drug Rehab?

Programs in residential drug rehab centers, regardless of the type, are structured and rigid by nature. However, experts also recognize the importance of friends and family to a successful recovery. Family visits are allowed, and indeed encouraged at a residential drug rehabilitation center, however, what the visitation policy is, will vary from facility to facility, and this is one of the important questions you should ask, before choosing any inpatient drug center.

Outpatient Drug Rehab Laguna Beach

The program at an outpatient drug rehab, or a day-clinic drug treatment center, usually does not include medications, and is more often reserved for the non-opiate addicted user or for opiate addicts for whom medical therapy has not been deemed necessary. Still, there will likely be medical supervision at an outpatient drug rehab center, and many are affiliated with local Laguna Beach area hospitals.

Most of the programs in an outpatient setting involve “talk therapy” and behavior modification through individual or group counseling. The program at an outpatient drug rehab center may also incorporate the 12-Step methodologies, and have a specific period of time that the patient needs to attend the program, with specific goals or milestones that need to be achieved, before the program can be said to be completed.

Assessment and Intake

Regardless if you choose inpatient drug rehab, or outpatient addiction recovery, your treatment all starts with assessment, pre-intake and intake.

Even before your assessment, and particularly if you are going into a residential drug program, there are some “pre-intake” arrangements you need to attend to. Some of the pre-intake details you may need to take care of include:

  • Making any necessary arrangements with your employer
  • Arranging care for children and/or pets
  • Be sure you know what you must bring, and what personal items are prohibited
  • If your addiction has resulted in suspension of driving privileges, arrange for transportation to and from the center.

Intake At Drug Rehab Centers in Orange County

Intake is a detailed process that could vary slightly from center to center, but the ultimate goals are the same: to evaluate your individual condition and needs, and see if the program at the particular center is right for you.

During the intake session you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire, which along with your medical history, will give the intake counselors a good picture of your struggles with addiction, and your mental and emotional state. In addition, the assessment and intake process could include lab work and other diagnostic tests.

The ultimate goal of the intake process is to evaluate your situation in terms of your individual addiction, and determine the treatment method or methods that will be the most effective for you.

Intake is also the best time for you or your loved ones, to ask questions about the facility, to help to make sure it is right for you. Some typical questions you should ask are:

  • What kinds of accreditation does the facility have, and credentials does the staff hold?
  • Have there been published studies of the effectiveness of their treatment programs?
  • Is the facility coed, are treatments gender specific?
  • Are treatments “faith based,” or nonsectarian?
  • What is the patient to counselor ratio?
  • How individualized are treatments?
  • Is medical detox offered?

Detoxification

Medical detoxification is a way to ensure that someone entering a drug rehab program does so completely “clean.” Medical detoxification is designed to remove any and all drugs from the addict’s system, and will be tailored to the particular substance, or substances, the patient was using.

Particularly in the case of opioid addiction, maintenance medication may also be given during the detoxification process, to ease symptoms of withdrawal. Detoxification will usually only be done in an inpatient setting as it may take some time, and requires proper medical supervision to be safe and effective.

Any medication used during drug detox will be based on your medical history, your individual physique and metabolism, and the type of addiction you are being treated for.

Before entering detox, during your intake period, you will most likely be assessed by a doctor or nurse practitioner to determine what if any, level of medical detoxification you need. Pharmaceuticals that could be used during medical detox, include:

  • Methadone
  • Buprenorphine
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Barbiturates

Sober Living in Orange County Drug Rehab Centers

Sober living is an integral part of a successful addiction recovery. Sober living, sometimes known as “halfway houses,” are designed to help ease a recovering addict back into society.

Re-entering life after spending time in drug rehab can be a very scary prospect. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was someone there to meet you halfway? That is exactly what spending some time at a halfway house or “sober living” residence is all about. Sober living residences are also sometimes referred to as recovery houses, or recovery residences. But no matter what you call it, the goal is to provide a safe and clean environment in which recovering addicts can bridge the gap into long-term recovery. If you or a loved one has struggled with drug or alcohol addiction, then you know all to well that getting sober, and staying clean for the long-term, can be two very different things.

A halfway house or sober living residence is a vital part of a comprehensive recovery and support system. All too often, alcoholics and addicts are treated and discharged from rehab, only to wind up right back with their “old friends” and in an environment where old habits are triggered quite easily. Such temptations can be powerful and overwhelming, often resulting in relapse.

Spending a few months in sober living, however, among friends whose only goal is also to stay clean and sober, can give the recovering addict the strength he or she needs to get back out there, and return to a fulfilling and productive life. Every sober living home is different, with a broad range of styles and living arrangements, but the concept and programs are all designed to support your recovery with work and life-skills programs. In any sober living environment you will be expected to follow certain rules and residency guidelines. The house sets up what is expected of its tenants to create a structured and disciplined environment that is conducive to the safety, recovery, and healing of all of its residents. Think of it as a way to “test the waters,” to start to ease back into your regular life, but with the support of a structured and sober environment to fall back on.

Return and Recovery

Ultimately, the bottom line for any addiction recovery program in any of the Orange County Drug Treatment Centers, in Laguna Beach – residential or outpatient – is to help the individual break free from drug addiction so that he or she, may return to everyday life and remain a drug-free, alcohol-free, responsible, and productive member of society.
