The once ‘Sober’ pop star Demi Lovato has been transferred from her Hollywood Hills home to a Los Angeles area hospital this afternoon from an apparent heroin overdose. Her condition is stable after she was found unconscious and revived with a dose of Narcan.
A call placed at 11: 22am from Lovato’s block was confirmed by the Los Angeles Fire Department, who would only say a 25-year old woman was transported to a nearby hospital. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a medical emergency at a resident’s home on Lovato’s block at 11:40 A.M local time.
Last month, the singer released the song “Sober” where she admitted to relapsing after a solid six years of sobriety. During a performance in Brazil she was unable to hold back her emotions and broke down in tears while singing the lyrics “And I’m sorry for the fans I lost/Who watched me fall again/I want to be a role model, but I’m only human.
Lovato has always been candid with her struggle with addiction, growing up in the entertainment spotlight she was exposed to many illicit substances while also battling an eating disorder for the better part of her teenage years. In her own 2017 documentary Simply Complicated she spoke about her first encounter with drinking and parties, saying She said she “loved” it.
“My dad was an addict and an alcoholic. Guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him and he chose that over a family,” she admitted in the film.
Her drugs of choice previously were cocaine and Oxycontin. Most people who have struggled with addiction to painkillers eventually end up using heroin in it’s place.
In 2011 she entered treatment to treat her bipolar disorder, bulimia, addiction and self harm issues. Following her stint in rehab she lived in a sober-living facility for an entire year.
