The year 2019 was full of marijuana legalization advancements, as states legalized cannabis and companies expanded their goods. During this society and legal transition, a restaurant in the heart of California will now be offering marijuana its costumers as part of their regular menu. This step is a first of its kind in the United States and plans to become the model for others like it to come.
The Lowell Cafe in West Hollywood, confirmed earlier this week that it would be the first of its kind to provide, “full-service restaurant and lounge to offer farm-to-table cannabis and cuisine.” Diners over the age of 21 will be able to enjoy a full course menu created to “enhance the cannabis experience.”
Lowell Farms, a growing marijuana brand, was one of eight cannabis Cafes to be granted a cannabis consumption license in West Hollywood. According to the state’s records, there were over 300 hundred applicants, and Lowell Café claims they were awarded the first license.
The Cafe will offer diners a “flower menu,” which they confirm will change every day “based on seasonal harvests available from our network of family farms.” Their guest once verified, will be allowed to purchase prepackaged cannabis-infused products. However, current federal legislation prevents them from offering any infused plates.
Lowell describes their Cafe as “A welcoming space for those who are cannabis connoisseurs and those who are canna-curious and looking to experience cannabis in a welcoming atmosphere. There hasn’t been anything like this in existence for over 100 years, dating back to pre-prohibition era cannabis tea pads. We’re excited to set the standard on what a cannabis cafe is and create this experience for the community.”
Their menu was created by top Chef Andrea Drummer, who refers to the Cafe as “the first-of-its-kind.” The Cafe claims that the list will be “reflective of California flavors with its farm-to-table experience for both cuisine and cannabis.”
The Lowell Cafe is said to open in September and will commence taking reservations two weeks before the official opening date (which has not been revealed yet).
